Tuesday

Breakfast:
oatmeal with 1/2 banana, slivered almonds, 13 dark choc chips & a spoonful of PB
coffee

Snack:
Fibre plus bar
grapes

Lunch:
2 slices multi-grain toast
2 hard boiled eggs
choc pudding cup

Snack:
yogourt & blueberries
the rest of my grapes

Supper:
garden salad & a seafood skillet from Pizza Delight - it tasted bland enough and was so colorful it felt like the healthiest option. I also didn't finish it and saved the leftovers for lunch tomorrow.

Snack:
peppermint tea
1 100 cal Reese PB cup treat (so yum!) -- no dinner out on Mummy night is complete without a trip to Timmy's for a coffee for her and a tea for me. I usually have two mini kit-kat bars. I could've had 1 but opted for the other because it was labelled "100 calories" like it was diet or something. Damn marketers ;)

Monday

I did have good intentions on having a healthy spinach salad with my lunch today to jump start Day 1 of my renewed "healthy eating"...but my produce was less than fresh. I actually went so far as to cut off the one part of the green pepper that wasn't wrinkly, and peel the soft wet icky outer layer of the mushrooms. But, when I opened up the spinach and saw the wet icky gross mess inside the container I gave up and threw the whole works into the garbage. On account of Mother Nature throwing us a nasty day of wind, rain, freezing rain and wet snow, I'm not going out at lunch to get anything either. So have I sufficiently excused myself out of my required veggie intake for Day 1? Bah!

So - here we go:

Breakfast:
bowl of oatmeal (quick oats) with sliced almonds, 1/2 banana, 13 "dark" choc chips & a tsp and a little bit of light PB
coffee

Snack:
Kellogg Fibre Plus bar
grapes

Lunch:
Lean Cuisine chicken alfredo dinner
2 slices of 12 grain toast
1/2 banana
fat free choc pudding cup

Snack:
yogourt, blueberries & granola

Supper:
shrimp sauteed in EVOO, garlic and pepper
peas, cauliflower & broccoli
1/3 of a pkg of Knorr Sidekick pasta (I know not the best choice, but it was in the house, and quick - and I gave the majority to Chris)
glass of choc milk

I'm hopeful that I ate enough at supper that I'll be ok til morning - if not, for a night snack I may have a small bowlful of baked Cheetos during the Bachelor finale*.

*Update: Oh I did eat the baked Cheetos. In my gluttonous state, however, I neglected to pour myself a "small bowlful" and instead finished off the freaking bag. It was approximately half-ish or a little bit less than half, but more than 'recommended serving' of course. Notice how I still admitted this though? Accountability. And yeah, sometimes it sucks.

A new beginning

Pardon me whilst I do the walk of shame back to my "other" blog. You know when people say, "Oh this week has been a complete write-off...back on the wagon Monday"? I have been living a similar role...only it's been all of 2010. So, embarrassingly, and in hopes of revamping some freaking accountability for my actions and the crap I stick into my pie-hole, I greet you all again with a new-found journey back into being accountable.

Since around Christmas time (I actually did ok through the holidays) I know I've put on a few pounds of the lost poundage. I haven't been stepping on the scale at all regularly but I would hazard a guess in the 5-8 lb mark. In two months. Isn't the safe way to lose weight 1-2 lbs a month? Did I just eff up the next 8 months for myself? Jebus Chrisco. I didn't really draw this conclusion until I just wrote that sentence, you know.

Aside from the returned fluffiness I know I have to make some changes because I just don't feel well - constantly tired, zero energy, returned cravings of the forbidden kind...and I know it's all due to what I've stuffed into myself of late. And yes, "stuffed" - why let that one itty piece of cheesecake sit on the plate, looking lonely when I can stuff it in on top of the last one. Sure I'll feel too full, but it'll be worth it because it's cheesecake*, right?

Today, Chris and I are joining Marco & Krissy for the Olympic Gold game for hockey. I know there will be snacks; I know there will be beer. Starting tomorrow, there will be a return to the watching what I eat...and writing down my daily intake so I do have that accountability. You'd be surprised at how well the simple fact, "Oh I can't write that in my blog", will work for you. Well, let's hope it will again, anyway.

I should also dust off those 'new' sneakers in the closet, too, eh?

But, I refuse to let go of my comfort fit pants. Refuse. I would love, however, to purchase them in a smaller size, or two.

So....here we go : To new starts, new goals, and new challenges, and WINS.

To Monday.

Holiday Eating Tips

Long time no post, I know. Suffice it to say that I've been sorta putting the whole healthy eating on the wayside. Since I discovered the comfort fit waistband from Reitmans all went to hell in a handbasket, too. Even trying to watch what I put into my pie hole is futile this time of year, and the only bit of exercise that I will be getting is the movement of hand to mouth, no doubt. So you can bet that you'll be seeing a reprise of this here blog in 2010 - and possibly a reprise of the daily menus to help me get my fat arse back on the wagon.

Without further ado, I'd like to wish you all the happiest of Christmas' and I do hope that 2010 brings you much happiness, health and prosperity!

I'm borrowing this from an email forward I received. I do feel it's fitting for the blog, in that it's been a bit of a food thing :).

HOLIDAY EATING TIPS

1. Avoid carrot sticks. Anyone who puts carrots on a holiday buffet table knows nothing of the Holiday spirit. In fact, if you see carrots, leave immediately. Go next door, where they're serving rum balls.
2. Drink as much eggnog as you can. And quickly. It's rare.. You cannot find it any other time of year but now. So drink up! Who cares that it has 10,000 calories in every sip? It's not as if you're going to turn into an eggnog-alcoholic or something. It's a treat. Enjoy it. Have one for me. Have two. It's later than you think. It's Christmas!
3. If something comes with gravy, use it. That's the whole point of gravy. Gravy does not stand alone. Pour it on. Make a volcano out of your mashed potatoes. Fill it with gravy. Eat the volcano. Repeat.
4. As for mashed potatoes, always ask if they're made with skim milk or whole milk. If it's skim, pass. Why bother? It's like buying a sports car with an automatic transmission.
5. Do not have a snack before going to a party in an effort to control your eating. The whole point of going to a Holiday party is to eat other people's food for free. Lots of it. Hello?
6. Under no circumstances should you exercise between now and New Year's. You can do that in January when you have nothing else to do. This is the time for long naps, which you'll need after circling the buffet table while carrying a 10-pound plate of food and that vat of eggnog.
7. If you come across something really good at a buffet table, like frosted Christmas cookies in the shape and size of Santa, position yourself near them and don't budge. Have as many as you can before becoming the center of attention. They're like a beautiful pair of shoes. If you leave them behind, you're never going to see them again.
8. Same for pies. Apple, Pumpkin, Mincemeat. Have a slice of each. Or if you don't like mincemeat, have two apples and one pumpkin. Always have three. When else do you get to have more than one dessert? Labor Day?
9. Did someone mention fruitcake? Granted, it's loaded with the mandatory celebratory calories, but avoid it at all cost. I mean, have some standards.
10. One final tip: If you don't feel terrible when you leave the party or get up from the table, you haven't been paying attention. Re-read tips; start over, but hurry, January is just around the corner. Remember this motto to live by: "Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate and wine in one hand, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"

Mmmmmm.......

A new breakfast concoction that tastes so frickin good you figure it shouldn't be 'good' for you:

bowl of oatmeal with the following mixed in:
-1/2 handful of slivered almonds
-1/2 a small banana, diced
-a few chocolate chips (you don't need many)
-a small spoonful of peanut butter

Mix 'er up and enjoy.

Freaking delicious.I have to admit that this meal idea has been borrowed from a blog that I'm creeping on. I have full intentions of introducing myself to the lovely Angela of http://angiealltheway.blogspot.com/, and I've pulled the photo above from her blog. She's a wealth of healthy food knowledge and a true inspiration to anyone who is going through their own battle of eating healthier and trying to reduce a bit of extra plummage. Since reading her archives, I've already learned so much and I can only hope to be half as successful. Her rendition is a little more healthy than my own choice -- being that she uses peanut butter powder (didn't know about it, folks, until she posted about it), & raw oatmeal she cooked herself, but the way I figure it, even my choice is a whole lot healthier than a bowl of Froot Loops. Not that I eat those, but you know what I mean.

Check out Angie's blog, and the recipe above -- you'll thank yourself for both :)

Everybody makes mistakes...

Hello my lovelies! I haven't forgotten about this here blog, and I'm making a vow to revisit it more often, even contemplating again logging my daily menus because being accountable really does help me 'control myself'. While I've been MIA, I have been still consciously making an effort to eat more 'healthfully', but I'm not depriving myself by any means (nor was I ever). I have to admit to oinking out last weekend on Ruffles potato chips and philly cream cheese dip. I was so very proud of myself on Saturday night as I only snacked on the bowlful of chips that I had delicately divied up and ate slowly, consciously - enjoying every morsel. Better still was the large glass of Pinot that helped wash them down *ahem*.

Sunday was a whole new level of gluttony though, I'm afraid.

Sunday night, during the Amazing Race premiere (I'm very guilty of requiring "snacks" for the new shows), Chris goes to the fridge to pour himself a drink. He motions with his eyebrows to the location above the fridge holding the remaining bags of fried up goodness in a chip. I wasn't even really that hungry either (mistake #1), as I had recently just consumed a nutritious and filling supper. I have a problem with restraining, especially when knowing that I'd be watching him on the other couch consuming his own snack, so I nodded to him in agreement (mistake #2). I also didn't request that he bring with him a small chip bowl to hold my chips (mistake#3).

I also finished the remaining dip (mistake #4).

*OINK*

I will tell you, though...my tummy did NOT appreciate me on Monday. Proof positive that there is a direct relation to health via what you put into your body. I felt terrible. How can I justify ever putting something into my body that makes me feel that terrible again? Here's hoping it was a lesson learned. I just wish the darn stuff didn't taste so good.
